💌 A Letter from Your President

Hello comrades!

Welcome to the CU Boulder Marxist Student Collective webpage. If you’ve made it to this corner of the internet, you’re probably asking some big questions—or at the very least, wondering where all the people who use words like “hegemony” in casual conversation are hiding. You’ve found us.

I’m the current president of this collective. We’re a group of students trying to build something that feels both principled and alive. We read, we discuss, we organize, and occasionally spiral about the heightening contradictions of our time- but we do it all together.

Things are a lot right now to say the absolute least. We’re seeing open fascists in power, repression of student movements, genocide in Gaza, and a university that’s investing in war tech while throwing everything else to the wolves. It’s bleak. But history shows us that students have always fought back—and that the moments that feel the most hopeless are often the ones where solidarity matters most.

You don’t have to know the difference between Althusser and Gramsci (and if you do, no you don’t). You don’t have to have read all three volumes of Capital (we haven’t either—don’t lie). If you’re committed to justice, curious about the systems shaping our lives, and interested in building something better, you’re in the right place.

CU Boulder has a long tradition of radical student resistance, most of it conveniently erased from university tours. From anti-war protests to Chicanx student organizing to today’s divestment and sanctuary campus efforts, students have always made this place more honest, more alive, and more dangerous to the powerful.

We’re here to carry that forward. This collective is a space for study and strategy, yes—but also for laughter, for deep conversations that stretch past midnight, for finding the people who make you feel a little less alone in all this. So if you’re ready to get a little ungovernable, a little theoretical, and a lot more connected, come through.
